There are over 4,600 public use general aviation airports in the continental United States.
Some are
thriving high-volume airports catering to executive travelers flying turbines or jet aircraft. Others
are peaceful, even lazy spots where pilots of cessnas, pipers, and vintage airplanes practice their
landings and talk about their love for aviation. Whatever the purpose, whatever the location, I love airports.
I love to visit new airports, explore hangars, and meet new friends.
|
|
What do all those airports look like?
In 2006 I decided to fly to each of the 53 public use airports in my home state of New Mexico.
I gave myself one year to accomplish the goal. I didn't want to just make a touch-and-go at them, my objective
was to explore each airport and to keep a log about who I met and what I saw.
The experience has been great, but now it's time for the next challenge. This time you're invited to participate.

|
What if we visited each airport over a one year period and kept a log?
That's how the idea for this web site started. I named it the Continental US Challenge (ConUS Challenge). If you're a pilot and want to participate, you can sign up on
this site and pick the airports you want to travel to. Sorry, flying to an airport on a commercial carrier doesn't
count. Look over the rules for the challenge, and read the FAQ's if you have any questions. Then sign up and get
started.

|
Get started.
The challenge started August 14, 2006 and ends December 31, 2008. Let's support general aviation and
public airports, and remember to have fun.
